This exhibition, complementing Painting on Light: Drawings and Stained Glass in the Age of Dürer and Holbein, will highlight Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Younger, Niklaus Manuel Deutsch, Urs Graf and others. The exhibition will explore the range of German and Swiss draftsmanship of the 16th and 17th centuries through figure and. Hans Holbein the Younger (c. – between 7 October and 29 November ) was a German and Swiss artist and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style. He is best known as one of the greatest portraitists of the 16th century. He also produced religious art, satire, and Reformation propaganda, and made a significant contribution to the history of book : c. , Augsburg, Bavaria, Holy Roman Empire.

  The works printed by the Elzevirs are the supreme example of this kind of book. Authors and editors of their books were eminent figures in their respective fields, the printing was superb. The same applies to the ornamentation, which in comparison to books produced in France, Germany or Italy at the time, was subdued but effective. Distinguished works in other fields include Henry Walters' Collection of XVth Century Books (), the three volume set of Stephen Collins Foster Songs and Compositions, the seven volume set of the Original Journals of the Lewis & Clark Expedition (NY: Dodd, ), a pioneering artist's book by Raman Elohim, 5 Silent Songs (), and issues.
