Think Perl 6: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist is an introduction to computer science and programming intended for people with little or no experience. This aim of this book is not primarily to teach Perl 6, but instead to teach the art of programming, using the Perl 6 language. . The camel book "Programming Perl" is an excellent printed reference with thorough explanations written by the same people who wrote the perldocs (other books with animals on them are mostly ok.) Beware online tutorials - many of them teach very sloppy perl. Use 'warnings' and 'strict' - then perl will be very helpful in pointing out your errors.

Both the Roadrunner Book and the Llama book are meant as introductory texts on Perl topics. The Llama Book is focused on normal Perl, and the Roadrunner Book is focused on optimized Perl. Learning Perl teaches you the basics and shows you how to write programs up to lines long-roughly the size of 90% of the Perl programs in use today. Each chapter includes exercises to help you practice what you've just learned. Other books may teach you to program in Perl, but this book will turn you into a Perl programmer/10(74).
